Armenta is a Leader

By Katie Sanchez

Ashton Armenta plays basketball at Eldorado.

Armenta has been playing basketball since the age of 8 and plays center. She believes that basketball is about the team dynamic which is what she enjoys the most.

“It’s a lot more team oriented and we get along really well. They’re like sisters to me.” Armenta said.

One of the most difficult things about basketball according to Armenta is having the correct mindset while playing.

“It’s a very fast paced game and you can’t really dwell on the last play,” said Armenta.

She believes that her strong suit in basketball is being able to take on the leadership role.

“I definitely talk on the court make sure everyone is in place. I think my strong suit would really be just being able to have good energy,” said Armenta.

In Armenta’s sophomore year of high school, the girls basketball team went completely undefeated in district and won district which is a game that stands out to her.

“I think basketball for me has always been a part of my life. I don’t think there’s ever been a time where I thought I wasn’t going to play,” says Armenta.

Aside from basketball, Armenta also plays softball.

“Softball is a lot different,’’ said Armenta.

Armenta believes that softball allows her to focus more on her personal and individual skills.

“Oh I’ve been playing softball since I could walk,” said Armenta.

Beside sports, Armenta is also the student body secretary. Armenta doesn’t find balancing her busy schedule difficult.

“It can get rough, but I think the pay off for everything is just worth it,” said Armenta.

After high school, Armenta plans to focus more on getting a career in the medical field.

Armenta doesn’t plan to play basketball in high school, but she hopes to pursue medicine and become an anesthesiologist.
