Eagle boys ready for Sandia test

By Sam Powell

On Saturday, Eldorado will take on a tough opponent at Sandia.

The Matadors are ranked 3rd in both the state and class 5A.

“We can play with them, I think it’ll just depend on the matchups,” said Coach Roy Sanchez.

The Matadors average over 72 points per game and 10 steals, the Eagles average just under 63 per game but they have been very stingy defensively, allowing just over 54 points per game.

“Yeah, there’s no question that they have a very good starting 5,” said Sanchez.

One noteworthy stat going into this game is that the Eagles are unbeaten on the road, and Sandia has one loss already at home this season, when they fell to Volcano Vista. Volcano Vista, however, is the number one boys basketball team in the state.

“Focus will be a big key in this game, if we can get in a rhythm we will see some good results,” said Sanchez.

This game could be a real statement victory for the eagles as both teams are 1-0 in the district game they have played, whoever wins will gain a significant advantage in the district and would be well started at 2-0.
