Eagle-tastic Electives

By: Hazel Ebert and Asher Jordan

Do you want to know what electives you’re taking next year? Electives are a very important part of your high school experience because they make school more fun and interesting. Eldorado has a lot of electives to choose from, creative arts to career prep. On Wednesday January 31, there was an elective expo which was a way for students to gain more information on electives they might be interested in. During the elective expo, four electives were selected and whoever chose them got more information about the class. This took place before registration and they have the opportunity to choose their classes for the 2024-25 school year. After they chose their four electives, they sat in a ten minute session with the teacher of the elective they chose.

Everyone seemed excited to see what they could choose for their electives in the coming year and agreed it was a good way to learn about classes they were interested in taking next year. Meriam Hussien stated; “...the elective expo was awesome because you could see who your teacher would be and see if the environment is right for you if you decided to join the class next year. I enjoyed the 10 minute lectures because it gave me an idea of what I would learn about if I took the class.” This shows the importance of the elective expo that Eldorado held.

In addition to this, freshmen were greatly affected by the chance to learn more about the school. Vianney Perea stated; “I thought the elective expo was a great opportunity to explore electives and to get a chance to learn more about them.” We interviewed a senior, asking who she thought it affected the most and she said, “I think it affects freshmen and sophomores the most, because it gives them a better idea of what classes to take next year after only being in the school for a year or 2 and not knowing everything about it yet.”

Mr. Torres, our principal also said “students need to be able to make an informed choice about the electives they would like to select for the upcoming school year… it is also important to students because of the fact that we don’t allow schedule changes for electives after a certain amount of time”

In conclusion, the elective expo was important to happen at Eldorado. Students can now make more informative decisions when signing up for the electives they are interested in taking next year.
