CRACK! A ball is hit. The audience goes wild, and an Eagle softball player slides into home. Who is standing in the coaching box? Brenna Giesige.
Brenna Giesige, the new softball coach, is looking forward to starting off her first season for Eldorado. She plans to win another state championship just like she did in 2015 at Rio Rancho high school.
At only 7 years old, Brenna Giesige was already thinking of her future in sports. A basketball and softball player, she aspired to be great. She decided to focus her attention on softball. Even though it wasn’t always her priority.
“It wasn’t always like my number one passion, as a kid I wanted to be more of a basketball player,” Giesige said.
However, interest in basketball subsided.
Coach Giesige played softball throughout high school and played in college in Ohio for Muskingum University.
Though she enjoyed her time there, she was eager to turn her vacation home in New Mexico into her forever home.
After spending some time working at a juvenile correctional facility, Coach Giesige decided her 18th year teaching would be at Eldorado High School. She currently teaches small group resource Algebra and Geometry.
“When you come out and watch Eldorado softball I want you to see a team that plays hard”. Coach Brenna Giesige said.
Anticipating success for the 2019-2020 softball season, Giesige commenced tryouts. There are 27 girls making up two teams for Eldorado softball. These girls are expected to work hard and compete fiercely in every game.
Tryouts began in the first week of February and the roster for the players that made the cut was released Friday the 7th.
“Our motto is to take pride in living gold. It’s our philosophy for the season -- we need to get after it.” Coach Giesige said.
Eldorado has about five weeks of practice and conditioning before they play their first games of the season. JV will play their games first with Varsity playing after them.
Eldorado Softball plans on generating community interest by promoting themselves on social media and advertising their games and tournaments. Be sure to keep up with Coach Giesige and the Eldorado softball team!
