Science classes prepares students for college

By Denise Huerta

Lesha Harenberg teaches two of Eldorado’s science electives: AP Biology and Anatomy.

AP Biology is a college-level class that most college freshmen will experience. The class consists of DNA Labs and advanced biology research.

“Students take AP Biology to learn biology more in-depth in a smaller setting than they will experience at college,” said Harenberg. Mrs. Harenberg is looking for Juniors and Seniors to be in her class next year.

“My goal is for students in AP Bio to be well-prepared for the AP exam at the end of the year, but more importantly, to be able to ask questions and research those questions,” said Harenberg.

Anatomy students learn about their body and how it functions. Students will perform dissections as well.

Anatomy has been useful for students in medical school that are already more experienced than their peers. Many schools don’t offer this class, so students heading to college have the opportunity to be more exposed to anatomy topics.

Manas Kandath is a sophomore currently in the class. “The hardest part for me was conceptualizing things like how neurons work, but we do really good labs that help you comprehend it,” said Kandath.

“I love learning new things from my students and seeing their enthusiasm when they finally “get it,” said Harenberg.
